My friend had asked me to duplicate a bag she liked into crochet.

An exciting venture. The shaping, colors, lining... everything would be a challenge.

And I'm pleased with the end result.

The whole bag is worked in two pieces joined in the middle. A little tricky but it came out really very well.

Glass covers in cotton thread with bead edging. Crocheting these coasters go very fast. It's when you start the beaded part that takes a long time.....but worth the effort. I've made and sold many of these covers. These two are the latest.

My latest bag and I sewed it. Thank God I had saved this pattern a long time back as now I can't access the site as typepad is blocked for some reason. So frustrating!!!!!!!!

The instructions were very good & the best part is that the bag is so light and roomy.

My first knitted project - that I can show off!

I really like this pattern by Erika Flory. It's simple & fast &I didn't make any mistakes. Not bad at all for me. (the pattern is available on ravelry)

Since I don't know if it's going to be a boy or a girl, I choose a very bright color. I used size 5mm needle & 2 strands of Hariri yarn held together. I made it a little big- hopefully it'll fit my baby when it gets really cold here.

I had made this a while back. Just never got around to blogging about it. Sitting is a big NO these days. And I still have two more months to go, InshAllah. Can't wait.

I enjoyed making these flowers (sunshine bright). They were a little tricky assembling but well worth the effort. I'm so trying out different color combos. Should be interesting.

Had an order for a snowflake jewelry set, in silver. I used 3 strands of fine silver thread & a single strand of white cotton & also swarovski crystals. I'm quite pleased with it overall.
I got the design from a spinneys shopping bag & translated it into crochet.

We went to the Sharjah Aquarium last weekend.
Kids enjoyed it a lot. They got to see a lot of sea creatures up close.
Dania was scared & excited at the same time. Reihan kept running around asking a lot of questions. Afreen wanted to see an octopus which, unfortunately, was not there.

This sea horse had issues!!!

So beautiful. MashaAllah!

A felt pouch

I had designed & crocheted a bag recently (which,by the by, took me nearly 2 months) & I needed a pouch to go with the bag as I couldn't take any more frogging out (the bag). So I surfed the net & found this. PERFECT! But it's sewed!!!! Saved it in my fav & prayed for another way out.
Waited a couple of days & then gave it a shot.
Turned out just perfect.
And all at one go.
(That happens very rarely.)
Hand appliqued the mushrooms on them & sewed on little seed beads.

I have been wanting to make this ever since I saw it but I'm not that enthusiastic about sewing. I even thought of crocheting a similar thing. But now I need a break from crochet!!!!!!!!!
I used what materials I had and am happy with the way this turned out. I didnt have to unpick any stitch.....even the sewing machine co-operated very well. So well that I want to sew more!!!!

Because Dania got a new bag, Salma (my niece) demanded one for herself too. Salma has more bags then her mom! And she is only 2!!!!

Crochet tissue cover in aqua

These past few months were a crochet crazy months for me. I've made so many things in crochet & this tissue cover is one of them. I had seen this idea in a book & got inspired & designed it . It's a hanging tissue box cover. A very good idea esp for use in the kitchen. I made this with cool cotton in aqua with needle size 3.

CROCHET GLASS CASE

This project took me a very long time to complete. I had worked this with 2 strands of Omega mercerized thread and a small hook (size 3) because the case had to be stiff & sturdy. And it was a lot of strain on my hand. This was one of my most frustrating projects. Why? Maybe coz it was too simple?! Anyway, even after multiple froggings & frustrations... it turned out quite ok!
The pansy turned out really beautiful. The pattern can be found on crochet-mania. I didn't follow the pattern completely. Did modify it a little bit.

Crochet Tissue Box Cover

This is my own design. I made this with Nature Cotton. The box part was easy. It was making all those flowers that took time!
I sort of design as I go along. I play around with the stitches and go with what I'm comfortable or with what looks good with the particular needle & thread. So most of the time, I dont jot down what I do.
This was a relatively easy & a quick project.(Just one frogging!). The body took just 2 days of errattic crocheting. The flowers took a lot of time. [I dont enjoy making flowers (except the rose-like it!).]
The top is plain sc rows and the body is shell stitch. The whole thing is worked in one piece and the flowers attached later. I'll try & take more pictures of the top.

I made two with some left over yarn. This is with Nature Cotton.

This is with two threads held together: Dark blue Omega & spider man blue in knitting cotton. The picture makes it look bright but actually it's really a very dark shade of blue.

Crochet jug & glass cover

These are quite easy to make except where the bead part comes! Although beads do make a project turn amazing, I really don't enjoy working with them. Stringing on the beads are really a very tedious job which I usually delegate to my sister. But now I have to do them myself! Anyway, quite happy with the way this has turned out.
This I made for a client I met through the arte fairs and this is the second set she ordered. The other one is the same but in white with blue beads. Have taken pictures of it but its on mobile!

I like this motif a lot. And it's the right size for a coaster. I've named it FOREST COASTER!(All forest colors!)

This dress is for Frederika's doll. And Frederika loved it.

I used Anchor Knitting Cotton. The pattern was very simple although working in the back loops is not my fav. But the effect was like ripples. Beautiful!

This was my own design. The pouch was the easy part. The web had me caught up!! Tried to embroider it but didnt work out. Finally ended up crocheting the web. I am happy with the result and David loved it.

With the holidays on, one of the most frequent comments I hear regularly is MOM! I'M HUNGRY...(AGAIN).So to satisfy such difficult paletes, I must come up with really quick & yummy food. This brownie recipe fits that bill to a tee. It got done in just 20 min. The Kids had fun helping me to make it. I got the recipe from here. Wait for it to cool a bit before cutting. Perfect with a scoop of ice-cream.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!! goes the kids.
So, pizza for dinner.

How? (Easy version)
Take (or make) a pizza base, spread ketchup on top, sprinkle oregano, put fav toppings (diced capsicum, onion, tomatoes, cooked chicken etc.) & mozarella cheese... grill under a flame till cheese melted & browned. Serve with salad. Yummmm... goes kids!!!

I saw these coasters by Doni Speigle on Ravelry and I just had to make them. These were very easy & fast. I did increase the rows as I was using Anchor's Knitting Cotton(perfect for such projects) and I wasn't getting the size. I had great fun making them and am sure you would enjoy making it too!

My april fair

We have had a variety of climates today. The day started out by being very sunny, then it became very windy & dusty and then it drizzled a bit so all the dust settled down. And then it went back to being sunny & dusty & now its quite windy. And all this just shows that summer is right round the corner.

Friday was the day of arte's fair which is held every month at the Times Square Center in Dubai. Since I was taking part in it, I've had a very hectic time these past few weeks. The fair went very well,MashaAllah. Got lot of good response. And I did sell some of my stuff!! YAYYYYY!!!

I also got some Garn studio Muskat & Cotton Viscose yarn. BEAUTIFUL YARNS. Can't wait to make something with them.

It's done. My baby's frock is done & it fits beautifully. And Dania looks adorable. I put some violet velvet flowers on them...just to give it a pop of colour. I used 2 skeins of Natures Cotton in light yellow.

Last month has been pretty hectic. I had my exams, my sister was coming from India and I was going to India for my bro-in-law's wedding. So all the shopping & studying to be done, no time for hobbies! The wedding went off well, MashaAllah. But my baby fell sick on the wedding day & the trips to the hospital, guests coming... as one can imagine it was a pretty eventful day!

I had started a dress for Dania. I'm almost done. The pattern is from Crochet Today july/august '08. It's called Lacy Baby Frock . Hope to finish it by today, InshahAllah. I'm designing a similar dress for my niece Salma. Don't want to make the same thing so I might modify it a little..I also have another dress designed out so can't wait to start it.

This was my weekend project-Wild Berry Choco cake. I got this recipe from Nita Mehta’s book- Snacks & Deserts. I enjoy trying out dishes from her book. Her recipes are easy to follow & they do turn out good. Needless to say, I enjoyed making it & my family enjoyed eating it!
